How Minneriya National Park became one of Sri Lanka’s most memorable destinations

Minneriya’s ancient reservoir (the Minneriya Tank) dates back to the 3rd century, built by King Mahasen.

The park was declared a national park in 1997 to protect its wildlife and elephant migration routes.
